My entry for `Memnalar's All Hallow's Tales competition.

Tried to do something a little different with this one. Knowing how Benford's Law works isn't really necessary to the story, but if you wanted to read up on it a bit, you can check out this site here. The idea for revealing corruption via statistics came from listening to an episode of Radiolab that talked about Benford's Law. They obviously weren't associating it with demons, but I was also thinking about Jay's contest and whammo! The ideas came together.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it. Thanks to Jay for providing a prompt that forced me to write outside my comfort zone. It's always a really fun thing to do, and I learned a lot by doing it. I've uploaded this as a .pdf just to try out the new reader, but if that doesn't work for everyone I can rejig it? Let me know if you have any issues.

EDIT: Okay so people had issues. I've uploaded a scrap in dA text mode to my scrapbook here.

Eerily provocative in the fashion of the original "Matrix" revelation the "we are all batteries" or the "Soylent green is PEOPLE". Quite thought provoking!

Thanks mate! I find it difficult to get that twist working, so it's good that it did in your case! (:

I, too, was uncomfortable with the limitations of DA's own text editor so I did used this method: [link]

Yes, but it makes it hard to do a text search because it's an image.

In a way that's good because it protects my work from being copied easily. But in another, it makes it difficult to appear on cellphones and the like because of it's fixed image size.

I - tried to make a PDF originally and didn't have much success with it. It came out too blurry.

What software did you use to make yours ?

I couldn't tell you, I'm afraid. I think maybe it was just Google Docs? You have an option to export from .pdf there. Or it may well have been Word, which I believe has a similar function. I use a lot of different computers, so it's sometimes hard to remember these things ;P.

Fantastico!
Really I'm thrilled
Grim imagery
and even a few small words
that were new to me (akimbo
was one)

And I LOVE abrupt ending like that
In this kinda story
